I met up with my photographer a few weeks ago to shoot some fall content and we decided to shoot in Oakland vs. SF. Jess lives over there and I thought it would be fun to switch up the background for something a little edgier. BTW- Jess is an AMAZING wedding and lifestyle photographer if you are in need- she is so fun to shoot with and her photos are stunnning- peep for yourself!
When we first moved to San Francisco, James was working for in Oakland so we would do dinner and date nights over there a lot! It’s right over the Bay Bridge (20 mins with no traffic) and it’s a whole different vibe. It’s definitely the Williamsburg of the Bay Area with a long list of restaurants/bars and an eclectic presence. Don’t get me wrong, San Francisco has an unreal foodie scene but sometimes it just feels a little too pretentious.
Swan’s Market is the cutest little “food court” style spot in Old Town. From tacos at Cosecha, Oysters on the half shell from The Cook and her Farmer, and sausages from Rosamunde Grill- there’s something for everyone! This isn’t your typical food court- this is a foodie’s paradise.
Belly is the genius fusion of Mexican and Asian which means tacos and burritos with the following flavors: Spicy Chicken, Pork Belly, Southwest Chicken. Are you sold yet? Jess also tells me they have a sister restaurant called Sweet Belly that does only donuts and ice cream! #sold
Liba Falafel– two words: Falafel. Bar. Two more: Pickled. Veggies. And finally: Food. Truck. Yes, yes yes!!
Drake’s Dealership has to be my favorite spot! This dreamy outdoor beer garden is perfect for bringing groups or even date night! Drake’s brews their own beer, serves up bomb food in the dreamiest location in a you guessed it- old car dealership. It’s minimalistic outdoor beer garden is full seating from bleachers to family style tables with bistro lights above -every time I go there I get such good vibes. And the goat cheese appetizer. Their brick oven pizzas are off the hook and they have great food for sharing. This is the type of place you bring your friends to impress them!
Flora and Fauna is a super cute, romantic little spot that’s perfect for grabbing drinks and a bite at the bar before a show at the Fox Theater. Carter Beats the Devil is one of the best drinks around!
Lost and Found Beer Garden is another great outdoor drinking spot in Oakland! Super laid back and also great for groups.
Bonus spots: If you happen to be in the Bay Area on the 1st Sunday of the month, the Alameda Flea Market is a must see! If you can get tickets to a show at The Fox Theater– do it!! We’ve seen some of our favorite bands over there and the venue is stunning! If you can pop over to Berkeley another one of our favorites (we go there WAY too often) is Jupiter! Shocker- it’s outdoors and they always have live music.
