Have you guys ever had that “ah-ha” moment, where you feel things in your life FINALLY come together? Trust me, if you haven’t yet I didn’t believe in them either until recently. You see, the truth is – it was getting rough out here. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE SoCal so much but I was feeling a little lost. Coming up on that one year mark I knew I had accomplished so much personally, yet something was still missing – my career wasn’t quite where I wanted it to be.
Kara and I have worked so hard to study this social media craft and it’s become a passion of mine. I knew I wanted to be in a role where I could apply some of what I have learned and really take advantage of my creativity. The hard part was getting companies to look past my healthcare background and take a chance on me.
After months and months of applying to job after job things were kind of at a stand-still. I was hardly hearing back from anyone, and when I did it seemed there was always some sort of catch. I felt defeated.
So, I left my resume posted on Indeed.com and told myself maybe it was time to take a break, or a step back, and “reassess”. That seemed like the right thing to do, but I wasn’t sure where to start. I had made so much progress in my time here, I wasn’t ready to throw it all away yet. At the same time, something’s gotta give – like seriously, what’s a girl to do, ya know?
Then just when I least expected it, a little magic trick happened. Okay, maybe it wasn’t magic but it sure felt like it to me. Everything that I had been working so hard for ironically fell on my lap.
When you receive an email out of the blue, from a lady seeking your interest in a position that’s literally your dream job, you do as one naturally does: assume it’s spam. At least that’s what you do if you’re anything like me. Regardless of whether or not it was too good to be true, I decided it was worth the risk.
I responded almost immediately and sure enough, I got myself an interview; then a second interview, and ultimately the gig. I knew from the minute I walked into their office, this was what I had been waiting for. What is said gig you ask? LET ME TELL YOU!
You are looking at Small Girls PR‘s newest addition to their West Coast office. I am working as a coordinator for our Creative Digital team. Mainly that means I focus on helping to build online presence for our clients (which range from tech to fashion/beauty) through social media and influencer strategy. Each day is so much fun and it hardly ever feels like work. Our team is encouraged to step outside the box and stretch the boundaries a bit.
I was initially drawn to Small Girls because of the badass duo that is Mallory Blair and Bianca Caampued. These ladies might be small, but they are mighty – and now not only are they my bosses, they’re also my friends! Their work ethic is unparalleled and the attention they give each of their clients is what every agency should sincerely strive for. I love their “can-do” attitude as well as their dedication to empowering other females. I simply have the most supportive team and amazing coworkers a girl could ever ask for. Since day one, something in my gut told me this was where I was supposed to be. Feelin’ #blessed to finally be a part of a company that not only I believe in, but believes in me, too!
I guess what I’m trying to say here is if you just have a little patience, it will pay off when the time is right! If those jobs that I so desperately wanted (or so I thought) worked out, I wouldn’t have been given this opportunity. Anything can happen if you have a little faith, so just let fate take it’s course!
Lucky for you babes, they are still hiring!! If any of you NY or LA babes think you fit the bill take a look at the openings on their site and send me an email at email@example.com
