Building a capsule wardrobe starts with having amazing basic pieces, that ultimately become a blank canvas. What is a capsule collection you ask? These are your essential classic items that will not go out of style; they are not trendy, nor seasonal. These items are the amazingly soft t-shirts from Vince, Italian wool sweaters from J.Crew, and classic leather jacket from All Saints.
Denim is a true classic staple in our wardrobes. Dress it up, dress it down, casual Friday, wear it to work, black jeans, skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans, ripped jeans- we do not discriminate, we love them all. Most of us have our favorite pair of jeans. I remember specifically when I was about 7 years old and the Mary Kate and Ashley classic, “It Takes Two” came out- I was OBSESSED! My mom got me a pair of denim overalls from the Gap outlet and a friend and I dressed up as the twins for Halloween. Fast forward a few years later and I left my overalls (along with a walkman and Spice Girls “Spice” cassette) in my beach bag and forgot to load it in the car at the beach! I was devastated when my favorite pair of overalls was long gone by the time we went back. Literally, so sad. Anyways, we all have our favorite pair of jeans and they usually remind us of a period of time in our lives.
Around the end of September I attended the Fall Denim Party at the Convert store in Hayes Valley. I was introduced to some amazing higher end denim labels that I fell in love with! I’m wearing the Strom denim Tio in the wolf wash. The Tio is a skinny mid rise jean that is slightly (read: perfectly) distressed in the front. The denim wash is the perfect dark blue and the length is long enough that I can double roll them with booties.
If you find yourself in the market for a new pair of jeans make sure you invest! Jeans are meant to last a long time so if you take care of them (not washing them every time, wash them inside out) you should have them for a long time. Do your research and don’t be afraid to try on lots of different brands and styles to get the right fit.
Convert is a sweet boutique on Hayes Street with awesome labels like Kato, Goldsign, and Frame that are hard to find elsewhere. The owner of Convert is passionate about buying sustainably sourced fashion that is eco-conscious. shop + do good = feel good, look good.
