We love weekends with nothing on the agenda that allow us to venture around town. So, when we got the opportunity to do that last weekend you best believe we spent the day strolling around to some of our favorite places- Boston Public Market for breakfast (HELLO- donuts & smoothies, anyone?) and Brattle Book Shop in Downtown Crossing. With the holidays finally winding down and our bank accounts barely coming back to baseline, exploring our city is such a fun, inexpensive way to spend a Saturday with your best girlfriend.
Let’s be honest, in New England, these sub-zero temps can sometimes mean sub-par fashion. Life always seems so much easier in joggers. BUT with minimal effort and a little layering cozy cute is anything but a snowball’s chance in you-know-where 🙂
You definitely don’t need to overdo it. We suggest starting with a neutral base, like a comfy, wool, grey sweater and then pair that with a dark jean or a thick black ponte pant (don’t forget tights underneath for extra warmth). By keeping the first layer simple, it allows you to play around with some color with your accessories and other add-ons.
When it comes to scarves, infinity is out and blanket is in. The bigger the better if you ask us – when layering, it serves as the statement necklace of winter! Don’t be afraid to add some texture. Scarves, hats and mittens are a perfect time to add some funky elements like fur. If you don’t happen to be in love with any of your current scarf options a perfect next best is a cowl neck sweater – we’re noticing this style is really in this season and we totally dig it.
Of course, at the end of the day practicality is going to win. So, when it comes to a coat, if you’re going to zipper it up and cover all your hard work, a perfect way to add some spice is belting. This creates shape and still provides a subtle accent.
Flat durable boots are a must-have! Classic Bean Boots or Sorel are functional and fashionable. Last but not lease, top it off- throw on a cute colored beanie (here is our favorite brand) and you are ready to brave the storm!
